![]() ![]() It’s like complaining about the wait times for rides at Six Flags when you showed up at 2pm. You have to make an effort to work with their natural behavior if you want a good experience. These animals are not in stuffed into small exhibits so people can see them at all times like they are in a zoo, they’re free to roam. We arrived on a hot, cloudy Sunday at 10am. It’s $4.99 for a bag of food, my husband and I both got one and it lasted us two go-arounds with almost every species coming up to us. ![]() Go in the morning when the animals are being fed or on a cloudy day when the heat doesn’t force them under the trees, and then eat/shop during the hot parts of the day. NBWR cares for and fosters the natural breeding of critically endangered and extinct in the wild species! That is a HUGE deal! How many places can you have an ostrich peek in your window or a wildebeest come right up to your car? I’m sure those who arrived and were frustrated didn’t take basic animal behavior into account. I can’t believe people are calling this place overpriced! They must be spoiled rotten. The zoo is twice the price anyway, and you won't create the memories you will at a place such as this. We went to the San Antonio Zoo afterward, and although it was nice.was a disappointment after doing this activity! Here, you are right up close and personal with the animals and can really appreciate their beauty and unique-ness. Beware, the ostriches are VERY curious and they WILL stick their long necks into your vehicle if you make it convenient for them to do so. The animals literally come right up to the side of your car and are so gentle and friendly. You definitely have to purchase the food baggies or the animals will not approach you. This was BY FAR the best part of our trip, and there weren't many activities within a 60 mile radius that we didn't cover? In fact, we went back to do this excursion 2 days in a row! We purchased 2 bags of food each time, & drove our own rental vehicle throughout this massive and beautiful ranch. We rented a car and went on this safari, which is about 35 miles from downtown San Antonio. The Riverwalk was great, but you can only do so much of that before you need a change of scenery. My husband and I booked a VRBO in the King William District of San Antonio. We didn’t even need a second drive around cause we saw so much the first time. You can also drive thru as many times as you want as long as you don’t leave the park. You do pay an extra 3 bucks a person to feed the birds but that was worth It in my opinion as so many landed on us and my son loved It. The gibbons were so entertaining, as was the bird experience. We also loved walking around after driving thru. The ostriches were pretty hilarious, one pecked our windows when we rolled them up after he tried to stick entire head in the car! My five year old son got a kick out of this. We saw every animal listed on the map and many came right to our windows. The weather was cooler, low 60s, and the animals were active. We arrived at about 9:15 and I would definitely recommend being early, as we were one of the first cars to drive thru. Not all animals will eat It, but many do. We did buy animal food and I would say 1-2 bags is definitely worth It. We decided to go to the safari during our stay in hill country and I’m so glad we did. ![]()
